The Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist, editor, and professor turns 86 on Feb. 18.

Morrison, who was born Chloe Ardelia Wofford in Lorain, Ohio, is known for writing novels with epic themes -- among the best known are: “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula,” “Song of Solomon,” and “Beloved.”

She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1993 and, in 2012, she was given the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Morrison, who is the mother of two, has also written books for children with her younger son, Slade Morrison, a painter and musician. Slade died at 45 of cancer in 2010.

Her latest novel, “God Help The Child,” was published in 2015.

Her home in Grand View-on-Hudson, which Morrison used as a retreat after moving to Princeton, N.J., was destroyed in a Christmas Day fire in 1993, but portions of her manuscripts and other papers, stored in a basement study, were spared, according to media reports.
